Institute of Chartered Accountants of India which was established by Parliament under the Chartered Accountants Act of 1949.

The ICAI is responsible for examinations and licensing of its members.

Any student who has passed his 10th Standard can join the Chartered Accountancy Course offered by ICAI. One has to pass three stages of examinations, namely, CPT, IPCC and FINAL. The CA qualification is awarded after passing these examinations and completing three years of articleship training (apprenticeship). This is to ensure that trainees have a mix of theoretical and practical training before they become members. The minimum duration of the entire course is four and half years.
