Kathryn Ann Bigelow is an American film director. She directed the nomber of films like Near Dark (1987), Point Break (1991), and the six-time Academy Award-winning The Hurt Locker (2008).

Bigelow became the first woman to win the Directors Guild of America award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Motion Pictures, Best Director at the 2010 British Academy Film Awards, and Academy Award for Best Director.

The film also won her the Academy Award for Best Picture, the 2010 British Academy Film Awards award for Best Film and was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Bigelow was married to fellow director James Cameron from 1989 to 1991. She and Cameron were both nominated for Best Director at the 82nd Academy Awards held on March 8, 2010. Bigelow won the award for Best Director for The Hurt Locker. Cameron was nominated for Avatar.
