Kanaka Dasaru ( ಕನಕ ದಾಸ) was great poet, philosopher, musician and composer from Karnataka. He is knownfor his Kirtanes and Ugabhoga compositions in the Kannada language for Karnataka Music.
He is also known for propagating Dwaita philosophy of Shri Madhvacharya through poetry and music to the masses in the Karnataka region of South India.
The State Government had released Rs ten crore towards Kanaka Trust for taking up various programmes, including building a memorial to the saint poet.
Kanakadasa wrote about two hundred forty Karnataka Music compositions (Kirtane, Ugabhogas, padas and mundiges or philosophical songs) besides five major works. His compositions are published in many languages. For example about 100 songs in Kannada and 60 songs in English are published in popular books.
ಕನಕದಾಸರು (1509-1609) ಕರ್ಣಾಟಕದ ಹೆಸರಾಂತ ಕವಿ, ಸಂಗೀತಗಾರ, ವಾಗ್ಗೇಯಕಾರರು, ವೇದಾಂತಿಗಳು. ಇವರು ದ್ವೈತ ಮದ್ವ ತತ್ವವನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ರಚನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿ , ಹಾಡಿ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಇವರು ಸುಮಾರು ೨೫೦ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಳಚರಿತ್ರೆ , ಹರಿಭಕ್ತಿಸಾರ, ರಾಮಧಾನ್ಯಚರಿತೆ, ಮೋಹನತರ೦ಗಿಣಿ, ನೃಸಿ೦ಹಾಷ್ಟವ – ಇವು ಪ್ರಮುಖರಚನೆಗಳು. ಕನಕದಾಸರ ಊರು ಹಾವೇರಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕಾಗಿನೆಲೆ. ಇವರು ಕಾಗಿನೆಲೆ ಆದಿಕೇಶವ ಎಂಬ ಅಂಕಿತವನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೀರ್ತನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

The information is too sketchy. He was was utterly defeated in a war and almost killed, but was revived by the grace of the lord who directed him to surrender to Him. He later became a shishya of Shri vyasa Teertha during Shri Krishnadevarayas time. Though born as a shepard (chief of their clan), he was most loved and accepted by his Guru Vyasa teertha for his devotion to lord and his Gnana.
A remarkable personality, has left his indelible imprints on both Tatva vada with his great compositions, but also in the field of Karnatak music. He composed songs with ankita Kagineleadikeshavaraya.
