Sai Baba of Shirdi was an Indian guru and yogi, regarded by his followers as an incarnation of God.
Born : 23 November 1926, Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh.
Sathyanarayana Raju was born to Eswaramma and Peddavenkama Raju.
He is a well-known figure in many parts of the world, but especially in India, where he is much revered.
He is described by his devotees as an avatar, godman, spiritual teacher, and miracle worker. He has said that he is the re-incarnation of the fakir and saint, Sai Baba of Shirdi.
The Sathya Sai Organization reports that there are an estimated 1,200 Sathya Sai Baba Centers in 114 countries worldwide.
The name ‘Sai Baba’ is a combination of Persian and Indian origin, Persian term means for “well learned” or “knowledgeable”, usually attributed to Islamic ascetics, whereas Baba means is a word meaning “father; grandfather; old man; sir” used in Indo-Aryan languages.
The appellative thus refers to Sai Baba as being a “holy father” or “saintly father”.
Sai Baba taught a moral code of love, forgiveness, helping others, charity, contentment, inner peace, devotion to God and guru. His teachings combined elements of Hinduism and Islam and tried to achieve communal harmony between these religions.
